I met Kenji Lui through a craigslist gig ad. He was looking for sound designers/editors for his short film Evolution. Kenji gave me a few scenes from a similarly fight-intensive movie as a guide. Enjoy this clip where a futuristic music box reveals the true nature of the game the main character is playing...

After a couple of colleagues worked with Joe Bohn recording dialog for Checkmate, he asked for help creating new and unheard sounds to fit with the sci-fi themed short. I devoted several days and journeyed to 180 Montgomery St. to the MPT department at the Academy of Art U. We used their Pro Tools HD studios and Foley room to record and manipulate all the sounds. Danny and I attended the Epidemic FF; it was crazy! People spilling out onto Castro Street. There was stiff competition in the Best Narrative category...

I met James "Papa" Pringle through a Craig's List ad for a sound recordist/mixer. He told me he was working on a few commercials for IndieFestUSA and needed someone to record quality dialog, on top of mixing the audio in post. This commercial was filmed at his mother's house in Pinole, CA. The production was one of a kind and a great learning experience for all involved.

For our final Audio Post Production class at Ex'pression, we were given a folder full of Motion Graphicstudentswork. After scouring the folder for visual inspiration, I stumbled upon Justin's KidRobot short. The flying camera angles and eye popping light/shadow effects really blew me away.

To synthesize these sounds, I employed several different plug ins: Xpand!, Hybrid, Vacuum, and Sci Fi. The audience "ooos and ahhhs" were manipulated by the Sci Fi plug in, creating that shimmering, airy, futuristic sound. To get the percussive, beatbox sounds, I used a preset on Xpand! called "human beatbox".

Around graduation time, SonicLiving.com employed me and my good friend Sean Davidson to create an audio commercial to stream online. Sean built the instrumental music bed and I recorded the voice talent and mixed the final elements together.
